"I have been delivering speeches for 19 years. It would be an understatement to say that I love to teach! I have authored and co-authored a number of articles, participated with the Linux Documentation Project as an author and coordinator, delivered technical presentations in Canada and France, and have taught technical courses at the college level. As an instructor I try to keep topics accessible by using plain language, instead of tech-speak. In the classroom I focus on the needs of the individual learner, often creating at least two approaches to a topic to address the needs of different learning styles."
- Curriculum development and textbook authoring
- Emma has created course outlines (and taught) seven college-level technical courses and the complete curriculum for another seven workshops. Using hundreds of hours of teaching time with adult and young adult learners, combined with thousands of hours in the industry, Emma creates courses that help students to learn the skills they will need in the workplace. More information on workshops and a list of technical courses taught is available online.
- Personalized tutorials and instruction
- A series of learning modules are available for personalized tutorials and instruction. These modules are appropriate for a full range of learners: from the very beginner through to the advanced desktop computer user and web developer.
- Public lectures
- The edutainment of technical training: public lectures are fun, inspiring and often have some very useful take home messages. A list of previous public lectures are listed on the Public lectures page.
- Small business and technical training
- In addition to the individual learning modules, there are also longer "courses" which combine several modules into a single workshop. These workshops are appropriate for a range of corporate environments, and many have been tailored for small businesses. Workshops and Technical Training.
- Technical coaching
- Not all problems have introductory-level solutions. Even the experts need a knowledgeable ear to bend from time to time. Technical coaching provides individuals and teams with a fresh set of eyes (and ears) on a problem. Available by the hour, or through a retainer contract.
- Technical support
- Sometimes you do not really want to learn how a specific thing works, you just want it to work. Technical support helps you to make things work with minimal fuss and frustration. Call before, during or after you're ready to throw your computer out the window from frustration. Available by the hour, or through a retainer contract (which is like having tech support insurance).
- Written documentation
- Unfortunately written documentation is usually the first part a project to be neglected. It is possible you have run out of time, or are too close to your project to accurately describe it. A full range of documentation options are available: from full technical instruction manuals all the way through to setting up internal knowledge management systems that are easy for all staff to maintain.
